Jhalana Leopard Reserve sits inside Jaipur itself — about twenty square kilometers of dry forest ridge with one of the densest leopard populations in India. An open Gypsy and a park naturalist take you through the tracks at first or last light, when the cats move.

Pickup from Your Jaipur Hotel
Your driver collects you from your hotel and takes you to the Jhalana gate, ten to twenty minutes from most of the city.
Permits & Gypsy
Your permit is issued and you transfer to an open 4x4 Gypsy with a park-approved naturalist, who explains where the resident leopards have been seen this week.
Into the Reserve
Drive the reserve tracks through dry deciduous forest and rocky ridge. Beyond the leopards there are striped hyena, desert fox, jackal, nilgai, and well over a hundred bird species.
Leopard Tracking
Your naturalist reads alarm calls and fresh pugmarks to work out where the cats are. Sightings are frequent here by Indian standards, though never guaranteed.
Return to Your Hotel
The safari ends back at the gate, and your driver returns you to your hotel.

Important notes for this tour
- Safaris run in two slots — early morning and late afternoon. Mornings are cooler; afternoons often produce more movement.
- Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Jhalana has a high leopard density and sightings are frequent, but these are wild, free-ranging animals.
- Permits are issued in your name — please carry a valid photo ID for every traveler. A clear photograph of the ID on your phone is acceptable.
- The safari is in an open Gypsy. Carry warm layers in winter, a hat and sunglasses in summer; the tracks are dusty.
- The reserve closes on some public holidays and during heavy monsoon rain — we confirm availability when you book.
- Please stay in the vehicle at all times and follow your naturalist's instructions.

How long is the safari?
About three hours in total — roughly two hours inside the reserve, plus transfers and permit formalities.
Will we definitely see a leopard?
No safari can guarantee a sighting. Jhalana has one of the highest leopard densities in India and sightings are frequent, but these are wild animals moving freely.
What else lives in the reserve?
Striped hyena, desert fox, jackal, nilgai, Indian palm civet, monitor lizards, and more than a hundred bird species.
Morning or afternoon — which is better?
Both work. Mornings are cooler and quieter; afternoons often produce more movement as the cats become active. Tell us which slot you prefer when booking.
Do I need to bring anything?
A valid photo ID for every traveler, since permits are issued in your name. Then warm layers in winter, a hat and sunglasses in summer, and a camera with a zoom if you have one.
Is the vehicle private?
The standard booking is a shared open Gypsy with a park naturalist. A private Gypsy can be arranged on request at an additional cost.
