About our private city tours
A city tour is for the traveler who has arrived somewhere and wants to understand it rather than tick it off. Delhi, Agra and Jaipur each reward a full day, and each is a different kind of city — Delhi is really seven cities stacked on top of one another, Agra is a Mughal capital that outgrew its own monuments, and Jaipur was drawn on a grid in 1727 by an astronomer prince.
Our Delhi tours run as half-day or full-day, because not everyone has a whole day to give. The half-day covers either Old Delhi or New Delhi; the full day covers both, which is the version we recommend if it is your first time in India. Old Delhi means Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk and the narrow lanes behind it. New Delhi means Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, India Gate and the wide colonial avenues that feel like a different country from the streets two miles north.
In Jaipur, a full day takes in Amber Fort, the Hawa Mahal, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar. We do not include elephant rides at Amber Fort — the welfare concerns are real and we would rather explain the fort's ramp on foot or by jeep than take part in that.
City tours are private, with your own car, driver and licensed guide. You are not moved along on someone else's schedule, and there are no scheduled shopping stops unless you ask for them — a promise worth reading twice if you have taken a cheap city tour in India before.
Common questions
How many days do I need in Delhi?
One full day covers the essentials of both Old and New Delhi. Two days lets you add Akshardham, a food walk, or simply move at a gentler pace. Most travelers on a Golden Triangle itinerary give Delhi a single day at the start or the end.
What is the difference between Old Delhi and New Delhi?
Old Delhi is the Mughal city — Jama Masjid, the Red Fort, and the dense bazaar lanes of Chandni Chowk. New Delhi is the British-built capital of wide avenues, plus the older sites of Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. They are about forty minutes apart and feel like different centuries.
Do I need to cover my head or dress a particular way?
For mosques and temples, shoulders and knees should be covered, and heads covered at Jama Masjid and any Sikh gurdwara — scarves are available at the entrance. Your guide will tell you before you arrive rather than at the door.
Are monument entry tickets included in a city tour?
Tickets are shown separately so you can see the government fee and our fee apart from one another. You can add them to the booking or pay at each site; your guide will handle the queue either way.
Can a city tour be adjusted on the day?
Yes. These are private tours — if you want longer at Humayun's Tomb and less time at India Gate, say so. The itinerary is a plan, not a contract.
