Agra Fort, red sandstone and far larger than it looks from the road, is where Shah Jahan spent his last years looking downriver at the tomb he built for his wife. Itimad-ud-Daulah, the so-called Baby Taj, is the marble inlay work that made the Taj Mahal possible.

What time does the Taj Mahal open?
Half an hour before sunrise until half an hour before sunset, every day except Friday. In winter that is roughly 6:15 am; in summer nearer 5:30 am. Night viewing runs on five days around the full moon and is booked separately.
Is the Taj Mahal worth seeing at sunrise rather than later?
Yes, and it is not only about crowds. The marble is translucent, so it takes the colour of the light — grey before dawn, pink as the sun comes up, then white. By mid-morning it is flat and much busier.
How long do I need in Agra?
Half a day covers the Taj Mahal alone. A full day covers the Taj, Agra Fort and Itimad-ud-Daulah at a civilised pace. An overnight lets you see the Taj at sunrise properly rather than after a three-hour drive.
Can I visit Fatehpur Sikri from Agra?
Yes — it is about forty minutes towards Jaipur and works either as an add-on to an Agra day or as a stop on the drive between Agra and Jaipur. The abandoned Mughal capital is remarkably intact.
